Is a ramp or stairs better for getting a big dog into the car?

Our 4-step dog stairs set to 23 in or 26 in, so measure from the ground to the floor of your trunk or back seat before you order. If that height is 22 in or lower, the 60 in ramp is another option. The stairs need about 42 in of floor space behind the car.

Older dogs and dogs with sore hips do best on a ramp at around 20°. Our 60 in ramp sits at about 21° when the car floor is 22 in high, about 24° at 24 in and about 28° at 28 in, so it suits cars with a floor of about 22 in or lower. For taller SUVs, our 4-step stairs are easier.

Our folding aluminum stairs hold up to 250 lb and our 60 in ramp holds up to 110 lb. For a dog heavier than 110 lb, choose the stairs.

Start with the ramp lying flat on the floor and reward each step with a treat. Once your dog walks it without hesitating, raise one end a little at a time. Keep sessions short and never push your dog up.

Clip the safety strap to the vehicle so the stairs do not slide, and open them fully on level ground so all feet sit flat. The aluminum frame has reinforced sides and holds up to 250 lb. Let your dog try the stairs with treats before the first trip.

The stairs fold to 16.5 × 13 × 5.5 in and weigh 9.7 lb, with a padded carry handle. The ramp folds in three to 16.5 × 15.7 × 9.4 in and weighs 9 lb, with a built-in handle.

Measure your dog from nose to base of tail, and from the floor to the top of the head while sitting, then add 4 in to each; the inside of the crate should be at least that big. Our 38 in crate fits a dog up to about 32.6 in long (border collie or beagle size), the 42 in fits a dog up to about 36 in long and 23 in tall when sitting (such as a Labrador), and the 46 in fits a dog up to about 40 in long and 26 in tall (German shepherd, rottweiler or doberman size).

No. A wooden crate is furniture for a calm, crate-trained dog. If your dog chews bars, bends wire or has broken out of a crate before, use a heavy-duty metal crate instead.

Yes. The top of our 42 in crate furniture is sized for a TV up to 43 in, and the inside, 40.2 × 27.2 × 27.6 in, fits a dog up to about 36 in long.

Choose a crate that is built as furniture: ours are wooden kennels that work as an end table or a TV stand, in rustic brown, brown or greige. The 42 in and 46 in have a curtain you can lower for a darker den.

It is not the best first crate: it has no divider, so a young puppy has room to use one end as a toilet. Start with a wire crate that has a divider and move to crate furniture when your dog is close to full size.

Assembly is required and two people are recommended; hardware and instructions are included. The 38 in box weighs about 57 lb and the 46 in box about 77 lb.

The velveteen plush throw comes in 30 × 40 in or 50 × 60 in, printed on one side with a plain white back; sizes can come up to 3 in shorter. The Sherpa + name & icons option is a thicker 50 × 60 in fleece throw with a textured sherpa back. Any blanket can have your pet's name (up to 10 letters) and up to 2 small icons at no extra cost.

An elevated dog bed is a mesh cot that holds your dog off the floor. Ours sits 9.1 in off the floor on a powder-coated steel frame, holds dogs up to 149 lb, fits a dog up to 48 in long and works indoors or outdoors. The mesh is the bed, so there is no stuffing to pull out.

Yes, each of ours washes a different way. The 47 × 24 in quilted bed goes in the washing machine: wash cold on gentle and air-dry flat. The giant faux fur bed has a cover that unzips for washing; follow the care label and air-dry. The elevated cot is hosed or rinsed and left to air-dry.

No bed is chew-proof. Our elevated cot has chew- and scratch-resistant mesh and no stuffing to pull out, which is why owners of dogs that shred plush beds often switch to a cot. Our quilted bed has polyester fill, and a determined chewer will tear it. Watch a chewer for the first few days.

Yes. Our XXL giant dog bed is 71 × 45 in and 12 in thick, big enough for an adult and a large dog side by side. It is just under 6 ft long, so most adults fit lying slightly curled, like on a sofa, and it comes with a throw blanket and a pillow.

It depends on your dog's height at the shoulder. Our feeding station raises the bowls to 14 in, which suits dogs about 22–26 in tall at the shoulder, such as Labradors, golden retrievers and Bernese mountain dogs. For dogs taller than 27 in it will sit low.

We do not make health claims. Advice on raised bowls for large breeds varies, so ask your vet what bowl height suits your dog. Our feeding station raises two stainless steel bowls to 14 in and has a storage cabinet underneath.

Spread wet food, yogurt or a spread on the lick panels, and freeze it to make it last longer. Our silicone lick mat also has four kibble channels and a round well for water or treats. Supervise your dog and replace the mat if the silicone is torn or chewed.

No. A gravity feeder refills the bowl whenever there is room in it, so food is always available; if your pet needs measured meals, use a timed feeder instead. Ours holds 2.3 L of dry food and 1 L of water and is sized for cats and small dogs.
